Inverted Nipple Treatment

Inverted nipples occur when the nipple is pulled inward instead of pointing outward. This can be congenital or develop due to aging, breastfeeding, or scarring. Treatment options depend on the severity and underlying cause.

Non-Surgical Treatments (For Mild to Moderate Cases)

  1. Hoffman Technique (Manual Exercise)

    • Place thumbs on either side of the nipple and gently stretch outward.
    • Repeat multiple times a day for gradual improvement.
  2. Nipple Suction Devices

    • Devices like Niplette or Avent Nipple Puller create suction to draw the nipple out.
    • Works best for mild cases with flexible tissue.
  3. Breast Massage & Stimulation

    • Gently rolling the nipple between fingers can improve elasticity.
    • Temporary solution but may help with breastfeeding issues.

Surgical Treatments (For Severe or Persistent Cases)

  1. Nipple Release Surgery

    • The shortened milk ducts or fibrous tissue causing inversion are cut.
    • Can permanently correct inversion but may affect breastfeeding ability.
  2. Purstring Suture Technique

    • Internal sutures are placed around the nipple base to maintain projection.
    • Less invasive, with minimal impact on breastfeeding.
  3. Fat or Dermal Graft Augmentation

    • Tissue grafts are used to support and maintain nipple position.
    • Often combined with other breast procedures.

Post-Treatment Care

✅ Keep the area clean and avoid pressure on the nipple.
✅ Apply antibiotic ointment if surgery was performed.
✅ Avoid tight clothing to prevent pressure on healing tissue.
✅ Regular follow-ups to check for recurrence.
