Xanthelasma Correction

Xanthelasma correction refers to the treatment of xanthelasma palpebrarum, which are yellowish cholesterol deposits that form on the eyelids. These deposits are usually harmless but can be cosmetically undesirable. Treatment options include:

Non-Surgical Treatments

  1. Medications

    • Statins (if high cholesterol is a concern)
    • Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) peeling
  2. Laser Treatment

    • CO₂ Laser: Used to remove the deposits with minimal scarring.
    • Erbium Laser: Offers precise removal with faster healing.

Surgical Treatments

  1. Excision Surgery

    • Performed under local anesthesia, this removes the deposits completely.
    • May leave a small scar, but is effective for large xanthelasma.
  2. Electrosurgery & Cryotherapy

    • Electrosurgery: Uses heat to burn away the lesions.
    • Cryotherapy: Freezes the deposits using liquid nitrogen.

Home Remedies (Less Effective, Slower Results)

  • Garlic paste (can cause irritation)
  • Apple cider vinegar (for minor deposits)
  • Castor oil (may help soften plaques)

Prevention & Management

  • Maintain healthy cholesterol levels with diet and exercise.
  • Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Use sunglasses and sunscreen to protect the eyelid skin.
