Types of Liposuction Techniques

There are many different liposuction techniques available to surgeons today. The main difference between each type of liposuction is the technology they use to assist the fat removal process. At Dr Monisha Kapoor Aesthetics we generally perform Vaser liposuction, which can be completed in a short period of time. It offers a solution for body fat removal and fast recovery with minimal discomfort. It offers a fast recovery with minimal discomfort. The technique involves the injection of a tumescent local anesthesia formulation prior to suction.

  1. Tumescent Liposuction:

    • The most common technique.
    • A saline solution mixed with lidocaine and epinephrine is injected into the area to minimize bleeding and pain.
    • A cannula is used to suction fat.
    • There is minimal bleeding during and after surgery as a result of the widespread blood vessel constriction caused by the epinephrine in the anesthetic solution. This is a major improvement in the liposuction technique compared to the older methods that simply use general anesthesia.
  2. Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL):

    • Uses ultrasonic energy to liquefy fat before removal.
    • Suitable for dense fat deposits.
    • he ultrasound energy heats targeted fat cells. Thermal energy disrupts cell walls, breaking up fatty tissue for easier removal. Since fat is essentially melted, it can be eliminated with gentler suction and a smaller cannula for minimal tissue trauma
  3. Laser-Assisted Liposuction (LAL):

    • Uses laser energy to melt fat before suction.
    • May promote skin tightening.
    • less aggressive, quicker procedure which may lead to a shorter recovery time. This technique has the advantage of simultaneously offering better skin retraction for patients with mild elasticity issues along with fat reduction.
  4. Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL):

    • Uses a mechanized cannula for faster and more precise fat removal.
    • Ideal for larger volumes or fibrous areas.
  5. VASER Liposuction:

    • A form of ultrasound-assisted liposuction that allows for highly precise contouring.
    • Often used for creating muscle definition.
